Casio FX-115MS Plus Scientific Calculator Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)The Fx 115 MS is the most powerful non-graphing calculator I have used. It is ideal for non Math students who are required to take an intermediate college algebra class. Unfortunately the single sheet of instructions are insufficient for the type of student that would benefit the most from it. I have put up a web site for my intermediate algebra students that tries to explain to them how to take advantage of its many features: http://faculty.ccc.edu/jnadas/graduate/CASIO.fx115ms.HTM

Product Description:
For math and science students at all levels, and for any home or office that needs algebraic computations from time to time, Casio has created the FX-115W Plus two-line display scientific calculator. An indispensable tool for students from high school onward, in lab classes, and for exams, the FX-115W Plus features a two-line display, complex number calculations, and an algebraic mode that displays the example precisely as written. It's useful in the household or office for calculating finances, converting cooking measurements, and anything else you think of when you wish you had a calculator at hand.
The clear, readable, two-line display exhibits 10 digits in large numerals, showing the problem and answer together and permitting better tracking of your equation-solving process. You can also call upon 279 built-in mathematical functions, many complete with engineering symbols, for a variety of tasks, including calculations in base conversions, logical operations, and standard deviation and regression analysis. Plus, you can key in and program formulas to save for future use.
The FX-115W Plus provides one independent and six constant memory keys. It has a pragmatic key layout, making this an easy-to-use basic scientific calculator offering the functions you'll need in a solidly constructed unit. --Barbara Price

Texas Instruments TI-30XIIB Scientific Calculator Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I bought this calculator b/c the National Board in Examiners of Optometry (NBEO) only allow Texas Instruments 30-series calculators on their exam. It's a good calculator and does just about anything you need it to for practical uses. I don't want to be rude, but the previous reviewers weren't "on the ball" on this one. If you want a solar model, buy one. This exact calculator is available in both battery and solar power. Your fault. To find square roots of a previously entered number, use the "Ans" key and close the parentheses inside the root bar. For basic exponents, use the "^" key. Don't blame the manufacturer for your incompetance.

Overall, don't listen to the previous 2 reviewers, and buy this calculator for use with any major exam (it will likely be one of the few permissible anyway).

Texas Instruments TI36X Solar Scientific Calculator Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I'm a research scientist. I started using a slide rule in high school about 1947, a computer in 1958, and scientific calculators some time in the early 1970s. Despite the power of computers I still like to have ready access to a good calculator, and my favorite brand (for versatility and ease of use) is Texas Instruments. The TI36X especially impresses me. It is a very powerful, very user-friendly scientific calculator for less than [price]. It performs virtually all scientific functions plus basic statistics and linear regressions and is light-powered in virtually any light. In my view, this is an incredible bargain. In fact, although I already have Texas Instruments calculators in my bedroom, den, living room, and at work, I couldn't resist the TI36X and bought one. It's a terrific calculator! If you don't need graphing capability, I highly recommend this powerful bargain calculator.

Product Description:
Ideal for students at every level, from junior high school algebra to college calculus, the Texas Instruments TI36 packs a lot of punch in a small, inexpensive unit. This solar-powered calculator combines features for statistical analysis, Boolean logic operations, and unit conversions in one sleek package.
Math students will appreciate TI36X's ability to perform fractional equations and calculate angle units (radians, grads, degrees) when performing trigonometric functions. Everyone will find the calculator's English/metric conversions helpful.
The TI36Xs single-line LCD is a little difficult to read when the unit is lying on a desk, and users in need of graphing functions will have to look elsewhere. Overall, however, for a calculator in this price range, the TI36X provides enough power for most high-level math and science needs.
