(More customer reviews)Most everyone who works in an office uses a calculator and more often than not, the calculator used is a large, desktop machine with the ability to perform all of the basic calculations as well as print. The Canon MP41DHll Calculator is typical of this type of device. It is a large, deluxe desktop calculator that is designed for those who want/need a little bit more from their calculator.
What extra features do you get with this Canon calculator? One is the fourteen digit display. Most calculators offer only twelve digits and some even fewer. With fourteen digits, a person can enter a number as large as nearly 100 trillion without a decimal point or just under one trillion with a decimal point. With a display this large, it's a safe bet that any business calculation can be made without the worry of exceeding the allowable digits. Even the federal government does not deal with numbers as huge as 100 trillion so you will never have to worry about running out of digits and receiving an error message. Another nice feature is the multi- colored display. The numbers glow in a yellow/green light when you have a positive balance and they change to red if the balance turns negative. This is much better than other calculators, which often indicate a negative balance by inserting a small, difficult- to- see minus sign in front of the digits if they go negative. With this Canon Calculator, there is no doubt when you have a negative balance. The display of red lets you know the bad news.
Yet another useful feature with this Canon Calculator is the multiple zero keys. Most business calculators have two keys with zeros: A key with a single zero and a key with two zeros. With this calculator, you get those two keys plus another key with three zeros. This is something you don't see with many calculators. This makes it easy to enter very large numbers with lots of zeros more quickly. The additional zeros mean there are fewer key strokes necessary to input the amounts.
I like the Canon MP41DHll more than most business calculators, but there are a few potential problems that some may experience with this calculator. One is the Clear and Clear Entry functions. They are on the same key, and this can lead to accidentally erasing a string of numbers if you're not careful. Press this key once, and you clear your last entry. Press it twice, and you clear everything. So, if you accidentally press this key twice, you will have cleared your entire entry. This can be very annoying when you have just entered a long string of amounts because you will now have to re- enter everything. Another possible problem with this Canon Calculator is the tendency to hit the incorrect zero key. Because this calculator has three different zero keys, one has to be extra careful to press the desired key. The single zero is below the multiplication key; the double zero is below the number one key; and the triple zero is below the number two key. It takes time to get used to this arrangement and it is very easy to press the wrong key.
I appreciate the extra functions on this Canon Calculator, like its item count option and grand total option because they make life a little easier by providing the total items entered and/or the grand total of all entries at the press of a button. I also like the printout with this calculator. Not only does it print in two colors- black for positive numbers and red for negative- but it is also very quiet and the two colors make it easy to distinguish the digits.
Overall, this Canon calculator is a very good one that certainly offers more choices and greater functionality than most other calculators of this style. The placement of the zero keys and the dual function of the Clear/Clear Entry increase the chances for error, but in due time, one can get used to the arrangement and reduce the instances for error. And when you consider the many positive aspects of this calculator, like the ability to display fourteen digits, the two- color display, and the three different zero keys, the pros easily outweigh the cons, making this a calculator that earns an easy recommendation.
