(More customer reviews)This unit is the third one that I have owned, the first I bought about 1989. The second one was purchased in 2000....which is still going strong and because I was afraid they would be discontinued eventually (the metal ones), I purchased this one.
This one has some minor upgrade of the buttons (glow in the dark) but is essentially the same as the older metal models. At one time (before my computer databases) I used the watch to hold phone numbers, serial numbers, birthdays, access codes, and any other numbers that might be needed at a moment's notice. Unfortunately, I probably won't use the database function any more. I bought this last one because I love the looks, the dependability, and although I have had comments that it is pretty dated for looks, I love this one.
Now, one major problem that may, or may not be applicable to purchasers. The metal coating on the sides close to the skin flakes away after about a year or so, exposing what looks like gray plastic. As far as I am concerned, it is of no consequence as this is an everyday work watch and not noticable to anyone.
The crystal seems to be non-destructable (one minor scratch on the 1st unit I owned), no scratches on the one purchased 9 years ago. The battery life is about 8 years as my second one just recently required a new battery ($10 at the mall aisle vendors). The metal band (although not quite as good as the earlier version, is more than satisfactory. It is easily user adjustable, the latch stays latched, small buttons are still usable, and I like the looks. Kinda' geeky I would say.
In any case, in today's abundance of terrible products (especially expensive watches), this model just keeps going great through the years. I sincerely hope that this newest unit is a good as the two previous ones. I might even live long enough to get another in 10 or 15 years!
